When You Are Ruled by Fear & Desire

Pretty heavy topic, is it not?  The human kind, you and I, ruled by fear and desire, a concept that no one wants to admit to, and yet, without form of thought do we not embrace these factors?  Think about it for but a moment of time (which is all that any of us have, this very moment).  Does not our minds, like an over-played movie, continuously bring us along paths of yesterday and simultaneously leaping into the journey of tomorrow?  What is rambling through your mind at this very moment as you read these words. Do you see these words; do you feel these words; do you know, I mean really know these words that you are now reading.  Is your mind, your consciousness really present or are you, as I, thinking about things that happened yesterday, and if in some way you think you might have done something wrong or offended some person in some way, is your mind not jumping into later on this very day, rehearsing how you are going to make yesterday’s situation better, fix it, at some future point today?

I, obviously, having written these words, am doing just that.  I made a mistake yesterday and I am living in the future this very moment as I visualize the scenario where I will fix (futuristic-ally) yesterday’s mistake.  And why am I doing this at this very moment, thus not allowing me to experience this moment, which is all that I have – all that any of us have?  It is because I am fearful of some imagined repercussions for a mistake I made yesterday and I desire (futuristic-ally) to fix what happened.

Can any of us change what has happened or live in tomorrow (tomorrow being only a concept of time)?  Absolutely not, and yet (I don’t know about you but I dare to say you are not much different than I or any other unenlightened human kind) this is how I waste my life which is entirely in this moment.

I thinking about God/YHWH or the Creator as some refer to him (so that we humans can somehow relate from our human senses) and having read or been told that He is omnipresent; that He knows all that is, was or will be, in every given nano-second of the concept of time; thinking about how we are told in the Bible or Torah, that I am made in his image; thinking about how I am told in the same book that He is energy….then, and only then and if I truly know…then I too have all before me – all that we call history or the future in that self-same nano-second.  These thoughts are pretty deep and we need to go deep to know. When I say know, I don`t mean from the concept of thought; I mean know that I know to which neither word nor thought can be applied.  It is much like the wind or the air that we breathe.  We know it is there, but we cannot see it.  We can feel it at times, but if we cannot feel it or see it, does it make it any less more a reality; absolutely not!

Some words of wisdom that generated the above thoughts as I sat down to write, not knowing what would drop off these finger tips on this computer keyboard.  I simply let the flow of words pour out what they would have the human sense feel or see.  This is from Eckhart Tolle‘s collection of deep thoughts in his book Stillness Speaks.

Most people’s lives are run by desire and fear.

Desire is the need to add something to yourself in order to be yourself more fully.  All fear is the fear of losing something and thereby becoming diminished and being less.

These two movements obscure the fact that Being cannot be given or taken away.  Being in the fullness is already within you.  Now.

In closing and as I copied out the above (thus, you can see I was not totally in the moment as I wrote) my mind thought of words I`ve read over time in the Bible/Torah and an acronym I made from the word Being.

  • YHWH said he is I AM.  Thus I am, right?  Not, I was or I will be, but I am.  Thus, I am…Now.  That’s it!
  • BEING – be-in-g :  To “be” is to “be” “in” “g[od]” – Thus we – all of creation – are indeed ONE

Just BE.
