Reflections: Spring Is In The Air

A beautiful and sunny day here in the metropolis of Toronto (Canada); sun glowing, golfers (yes I say golfers) pacing the greens 30 floors below, a bounce in their step – swinging the invisible golf clubs, getting ready to “burst forth” with new life, new exhuberance as the spring flowers struggle to burst forth through the frozen ground, each new morning striving and pushing just a little bit more; never any doubt that they shall soon raise their faces to be kissed by the sun and washed anew by the golden morning dew.

Nature; positive and ever faithful.  If she could think would she entertain thoughts of doubt and disbelief?  We never doubt, we who live in countries that truly do have “seasons”; never doubt that in March the first faint rays of the spring will come through with the days getting a bit longer, the nights a bit shorter; arising to an earlier sun rise and closing out the day to a later sunset.  We never doubt that there will be frost in November, sometimes in October.  We trust that nature will unfold as planned.  We see that despite the bleakest and harshest of winters, the worst ever, nature still comes through for us in the spring; springing forth as she always has, always will.  She feeds off of what is available, seeking life to sustain her life; spewing out or perhaps not even entertaining anything that would destroy her.

Why can’t we be like her?  Why can’t we know with such certitude that the seasons of our lives will unfold as set forth in the master plan?  Why can’t we learn not to entertain or indulge in things that would kill us; kill our spirit, our soul?  Why can’t we always and forever be feeding our mind and spirit with live giving food that will “lift us up” to be kissed by the sun of life?

We can, but we need to change our “eating habits.”  We need to stop killing ourselves.  Yes it is I and I alone who is the destroyer of my soul, my spirit…who frosts up her spirit never allowing her to unthaw and spring forth like the beautiful tulips in the spring.

I must change my diet, feed myself with live-giving nutrients.

There is power in a single word, just as this blog speaks.  I must speak love and wonder to my soul that my face be lifted up and kissed by the son; that I might spring forth in new life each moment of this life!

“Nobody grows old merely by living a number of years. We grow old by deserting our ideals. Years may wrinkle the skin, but to give up enthusiasm wrinkles the soul.”

Samuel Ullman

“Life is not measured by the number of breaths we take, but by the moments that take our breath away.”

Take my breath away o day that dawns before me!
