Cancer Experts Speak Out – Live Broadcast Feb. 5, 2011 3PM EST

Cancer (used to – I say the buck stops here) run wild in this writer’s family; angry, ugly destructive cancer, killing and destroying families so unmercifully.  Without reason I’ve linked cancer to anger.  Thinking about how my own mother underwent several surgeries for the removal of one after another type of cancer, I recall her anger and would think that some how that anger was feeding the cancer.

My mother watched a very close friend die of cancer; would be with her taking her to her treatments and sit with her during the recovery from the treatments.  Having gone through that with her friend, my mother swore that if she ever came down with this terrible disease, she would adamantly refuse to have the chemotherapy.

Several years after my mother’s friend passed away, my mother was diagnosed with lung cancer.  True to her word, my mother refused to undergo chemotherapy following the surgery for removal of the cancer. Guess what?  She totally recovered with no ill side effects (minus part of a lung and we’d joke about her spare parts, having 2 lungs).  Then she was diagnosed with kidney cancer; again two kidneys so jokingly she said she could afford to lose one.  Once again, she refused chemo and recovered on her own.  In all she lived a further 20 years of quality life following her first surgery.  She was supported with love by the family and her attitude towards life had changed; seemed to me she loved and laughed more than I’d seen her do in her whole life.

Almost as if to prove the theory I have about attitude having such an impact on ones health and ability to recover from illness, it was only on the unexpected passing of my older brother that my mother became ill again; suffered a stroke (another wonderful inheritance, heart disease) and succumbed to a returning cancer.  Both my mother and father had been devastated by the death of their first born child and they changed radically; as if giving up on life.  I can’t begin to imagine the pain of losing a child.

Can cancer be beaten?  Does our attitude have any bearing?  You bet your bottom dollar (your life) that it can, and that our attitude has one he** of a lot to do with it; attitude, support and the rest of our healthy living environment.

I am sharing with you news of an upcoming broadcast by doctors specializing in the treatment of cancer; a small price to pay to listen and possibly save the life of a loved one, help them to recover without going through treatments that leave them so debilitated they wished they would die – as my mother’s friend said to my mother after every chemo treatment she underwent.
