What is Therapeutic Touch
Like Reiki, Therapeutic Touch works with the energy fields of the client, the practitioner and the universe. During the process, the practitioner uses the hands as a focus to facilitate a healing process. As with Reiki, the common elements between the practitioner and client that are conducive to an effective session, are desire and intent. The client and practitioner are united in these two elements. The client has a need and the client and practitioner are in agreement.
It is this practitioner’s unshakable believe that every human being has the ability to heal him or herself. The practitioner (be it Therapeutic Touch or Reiki or some other modality) does not heal the client.
How It Works
The stage to be set is one of relaxation. The client is invited to close his/her eyes and under the direction of the practitioner, breathing consciously, is invited to visit a place or time in their life when they felt relaxed, at peace and at one with the universe. Often there is soothing music playing quietly in the background.
The practitioner will say a silent prayer and be in a state of relaxation and agreement that the universal healing energy flow unobstructed to where the energy knows it is needed. The client may or may not have a specific need that is told to the practitioner.
The practitioner uses his/her hands to ‘scan’ the client’s body, feeling the energy. The hands are like a barometer, and changes in the energy can be felt in the palms of the hand. The circumstances and events of each session are always different and the practitioner enters in, in agreement with the client, with no preconceived expectatiolns, knowing full well that the Universe will find the need, and guide the practitioner to work on the client’s needs at the time.
At the end of the session a client will have a general sense of well-being and be in a state of total relaxation. If the client had a pain or some discomfort, in most instances it will have been either alleviated or totally disappeared. At the beginning of the session a client is asked to sit quietly following treatment for at least 5 minutes to allow the energy to continue flowing and the healing process.
The therapeutic touch session helps by restoring a balance of the client’s energy field and thus enhancing the body’s own natural healing processes.
